about
Roberto uses machines to create emotional visual atmospheres.
Roberto Vitalini is a Swiss video artist known for his immersive and large-scale installations that feel borderless and create the illusion of endless emotional landscapes.
In 2009, Roberto Vitalini began collaborating with Daniele Finzi Pasca and Compagnia Finzi Pasca, integrating video into acrobatic, theatrical, operatic productions as well as Olympic ceremonies.
In global events like the 2014 Sochi Olympics, Roberto designed the 3D video experience for the largest kinetic tubular LED forest, which descended from the rafters of the stadium. In 2017 during Avudo in Montréal, his generative seascape was projected every night onto 100 shipping containers stacked to create a 120 meters x 50 meters architectural structure in the bay of Montreal.
His latest work, in Chongqing Guanyinqiao Business District on a 3788 square meters screen, is a dreamlike piece called "Ocean 88". This iconic location, with its unique ability to integrate the ocean mid-air on a building fronting a square with fountains, provides the perfect canvas for "Ocean 88".
"The stage area is a triangle, open to us on one side, with two curtained walls. On these, videos by Roberto Vitalini show us a galaxy of stars, seas at night and other vast contexts within which one human situation becomes central." Financial Times - 28.04.2023
"Roberto Vitalini’s mesmeric video design and Jon Driscoll’s haunting lighting are major elements in the production’s success, as is Bywater’s set." The Guardian - 28.04.2023
